AOCMHP is committed to coordinating statewide access to effective suicide prevention trainings to ensure they are widely available in Oregon. By equipping youth-serving adults with the knowledge of how to recognize the warning signs of suicide, increasing their confidence to intervene early, and increasing their competence during an intervention, we hope to reduce youth suicide. We are enthusiastic about disseminating ASIST trainings, as another tool in our toolbox of evidence-based suicide prevention training programs available to Oregonians who interact with young people, youth and young adults.
We are developing an infrastructure to support our network of trainers statewide, provide outreach to recruit hosting organizations and trainers in all geographic regions of the state, and to expand numbers of individuals taking courses by sharing information on upcoming trainings through websites, emails, and presentations, and developing centralized registration and a current database of trainings and trainers.
The ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) training is a two-day workshop focused on helping individuals prevent youth suicide. The interactive workshop teaches individuals the skills needed to recognize youths who may be at risk of suicide, including identifying warning signs of suicide, providing a skilled intervention, and developing a safety plan.
